Congregational Storytelling & History Project

Congregational Storytelling & History Project

Celebrating an anniversary? Tell your church’s story.

A church anniversary is a chance to gather the memories, photographs and historical records that tell how your congregation began, grew and served its community.

The Baptist History & Heritage Society partners with congregations to shape those materials into professionally edited and designed histories—ready to share during an anniversary celebration and preserve for future generations.

What a partnership can include

From collected memories to a lasting church history

Each project begins with your congregation’s goals and the materials already in hand.

01 / Listen

Listen

Gather firsthand memories through interviews and conversations with people who know your church’s story.

02 / Shape

Shape

Organize the material, develop the narrative and edit it for clarity, accuracy and readability.

03 / Preserve

Preserve

Bring photographs, documents, timelines and archival records into a coherent historical account.

04 / Publish

Publish

Prepare a professionally designed history, with book layout and printing coordination as needed.

Designed for your congregation

You don’t have to start with a finished manuscript.

Some congregations have years of records and an active history committee. Others have photo albums, old bulletins and members whose memories have never been recorded.

BHHS can help you consider what you have, what you hope to produce and the work needed to get there. The scope, format and schedule are developed around your church and its anniversary plans.

Begin a conversation

Planning an anniversary in the next year or two?

We’d welcome the opportunity to learn about your congregation. Tell us when you’re celebrating, what materials you have and what kind of history you hope to create.

After an initial conversation, we can outline a proposed scope, schedule and budget suited to your church.
